Below is a list of specific Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Initiatives Petro Matad Group have made to the communities in Blocks IV, V and XX.

Petro Matad is committed to evaluating and minimizing the social and environmental impact of its operations, thereby ensuring its long-term sustainability. Petro Matad has developed a Social Performance Plan (SPP) based on socio-economic and social impact assessments, which sets out the socioeconomic context, identifies the key stakeholders and associated consultation process, community grievance management mechanism, social investment strategy and commitments including the required resources and budget.

Our SPP includes initiatives to create positive social impact in Mongolia across 6 different categories: Education, Health, Water Supply, Infrastructure, Environment, and Poverty Alleviation. On this page you will find all Petro Matad’s ESG initiatives, social outreach programmes and environmental protection activities.

Our education initiatives focus on activities that facilitate learning through recreation, whether that is through play, organized competition, or common spaces. To promote public health, Petro Matad has made donations to hospitals throughout Mongolia, as well as responding to urgent public health crises. Petro Matad has sponsored the construction of ten wells to improve access to water and supported key community infrastructure projects in areas such as sanitation, culture, and public safety. To preserve the natural environment in our areas of operation, Petro Matad has actively funded waste dump clearing and tree planting initiatives. In order to address poverty, Petro Matad has provided gers (aka yurts) to Mongolians experiencing homelessness and contributed essential supplies to herders that will allow them to generate a sustainable income.

Education

Installation of outdoor playground equipment in Bayangol Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag, Matad Soum of Dornod Aimag and Erdenetsagaan Soum of Sukhbaatar Aimag.

In 2011, Petro Matad aided in the installation of outdoor playground equipment for 2 kindergartens in Bayangol Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag and Matad Soum of Dornod Aimag. The outdoor playground equipment that was installed were modern, high quality and safe for children. There were 90 children enrolled in the Bayangol Soum kindergarten and the addition of the playground were very well received by them. In Matad Soum, a new kindergarten was built and Petro Matad purchased and installed outdoor playground equipment to accompany the new building. In Erdenetsagaan Soum, Petro Matad purchased and installed outdoor playground toys and equipment for children of all age groups in the Soum centre.

Contributions to the students’ dormitory in Bayan-Ovoo Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2011 about half of the students studying in Bayan-Ovoo Soum’s school stayed in the school’s dormitory as their homes were located far from the school and they would have had to travel long distances to attend the school. The school established a recreational, media and learning room for the children staying in the dormitory to encourage them to spend their free time wisely. In 2011, Petro Matad contributed tables, chairs, computers, printer, and a television to the school’s dormitory.

Contributions to the Youth Development Centre in Bumbugur Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

A Youth Development Centre in Bumbugur Soum creatd an ecology studies room to impart ecology and environmental knowledge to school children of all ages. Petro Matad donated 3 computers to assist in setting up the ecology studies room in 2011.

Installation of outdoor playground equipment and restoration of children’s recreational park in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2018, Petro Matad financed the purchase and construction of children playground in the Soum center to create child-friendly, safe, enjoyable, and accessible play environment for the Soum’s 500 children. The outdoor high quality playground equipment and toys were installed on a specially designed soft-rubberized matting to prevent injuries from any fall. The Company also financed the construction of a standardized basketball court with lighting next to the playground.

Contributions to school dormitory in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

A significant percentage of the students studying in the Tsagaan Dalai Secondary School in Baatsagaan Soum are from herder families and live in the school dormitory during school term. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the renovation of dormitory rooms for 10 children which were fitted with new furniture in order to improve the living conditions of these children.

Contributions to organization of Eastern Region Archery competition

The “Eguzeriin Mergen” National Archery Association holds the “Khatgin Gurvan Khoshuu Archery Festival” annually to promote archery among children and youth. Petro Matad contributed towards the organization of the competition in 2019, when a total of 52 archers from Dornod, Khentii and Sukhbaatar Aimags participated.

Contributions to furnishing of school in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2023, Petro Matad contributed to furnishing the secondary school in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag, specifically funded the purchase of new furnishing for the physics classroom, school library, and modern blackboards facilitating the improvement of the study environment for students.

Health

Donation of supplies to herders during hoof and mouth disease crisis in Matad Soum of Dornod Aimag

In 2010, during the hoof and mouth disease crisis in Dornod Aimag, herders residing in the area were badly affected. Even Petro Matad’s exploration and drilling activities on Block XX had to be suspended as the area was quarantined and movement were limited and restricted. Petro Matad provided 39 families in the quarantine zone with food supply and clothing.

Contributions to the Immigration Office of Mongolia

In 2011, the Immigration Office of Mongolia planned to construct a recreational and fitness centre for its employees as part of their celebration of the 10th anniversary of inauguration. Petro Matad contributed gym equipment to the new fitness centre.

Contributions to Biger Soum Hospital in Gobi-Altai Aimag

Biger Soum hospital caters to patients from 4 other Soums in the area as well. There is a certified dentist at the hospital however it lacked dental care equipment and medications. As such the hospital was unable to provide the necessary dental consultations and care to patients suffering from gum diseases and tooth decay. It was recorded that 80% of the residents especially children suffered from gum diseases and tooth decay. In 2011, Petro Matad donated medications, anesthetics, supplies and dental care equipment to the hospital. The hospital is now able to treat patients with gum diseases and tooth decay and provide consultations free of charge.

Contributions to the Fitness Centre in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2011, the Ministry of Health ran a campaign themed “improving fitness and health”. The Soum hoped to build a fitness and physiotherapy centre for its residents as part of the campaign. Petro Matad contributed gym equipment to the new fitness and physiotherapy centre.

Contributions to Nariinteel Soum Hospital in Uvurkhangai Aimag

Nariinteel Soum hospital hoped to establish a Disease Prevention Centre in their hospital to advise residents and patients of disease prevention measures and for sharing of medical information. Petro Matad assisted in the established of the centre by contributing a laptop, printer, and projector in 2011.

Contributions to Tugrug Soum Hospital in Uvurkhangai Aimag

The Tugrug Soum hospital provided 5600-6000 consultations per year to patients. Statistics showed that 85% of the consultations required ultrasound scans. As the Soum hospital did not have an ultrasound machine, patients often must travel to Aimag centers or Ulaanbaatar to have scans. Petro Matad contributed an ultrasound machine to the hospital in 2011 which allowed free patient scans and mitigated the need for patients to travel long distances for diagnosis.

Contribution of van to Biger Soum Hospital in Gobi-Altai Aimag

In 2015, Petro Matad purchased a van to allow transportation of patients and staff to the Biger Soum hospital.

Contributions to Guchin-Us and Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soums’ hospitals in Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2016, Petro Matad donated medical and physiotherapy equipment to the local hospitals in Guchin-Us and Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soums. With the new medical and diagnostic equipment, the hospitals were able to provide improved first aid response. With the new physiotherapy equipment, the hospitals aimed to extend the benefits of traditional rehabilitation after care, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and increase the application of non-medical treatments to residents.

Contribution of medical equipment to Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2016, Petro Matad purchased and installed medical equipment in the Baatsagaan Soum hospital in Bayankhongor Aimag for emergency treatment of mothers, children, and residents. The donated equipment enabled the hospital to provide emergency treatments without delay, diagnose injuries and serious illnesses, prevent degeneration of sicknesses, and reduce fatalities, all to the benefits of the 3200 residents of the Soum.

Contribution of medical equipment to hospitals in Matad Soum and Dornod Aimag

To assist Matad Soum authorities in their efforts against preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the region, Petro Matad donated personal protective equipment in 2021. Additionally in 2022, Petro Matad donated 5 patient monitors to Dornod Aimag regional hospital, and 4 patient beds to Matad Soum hospital for emergency medical care to patients infected with the Covid-19 virus. This medical equipment also deemed to have long term beneficial use even after the end of the pandemic.

Water Supply

Water well repaired in Chandmani Soum of Gobi-Altai Aimag

The water well in Chandmani Soum centre was damaged by strong wind in 2012 and residents had difficult time drawing water from the well. The well had also not received any servicing since 1991. In 2013, Petro Matad assisted in servicing and repairing the water well.

Water well drilled in Tugrug Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2013, a water well was drilled per the request of Tugrug Soum residents. The 1200 residents of Tugrug Soum were then able to consume good quality water from the well.

2 water wells drilled in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

Petro Matad funded the drilling of 2 water wells in areas specified by the residents of Baatsagaan Soum. The first water well was drilled in Bagh 5 in a common animal grazing area. The other well was drilled in Bagh 1 and provided a valuable water source for 30 families, 150 people and circa 2000 animals. The drilling of these water wells in these areas were well received by herders and the residents as a nearby water source became available once again for the grazing animals and herders.

Prior in 2017, 2 existing water wells in the Soum’s 3^rd Bagh’s, used by residents and livestock at their summer grazing pastureland, became unusable due to sanding up. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the drilling of a 160m deep new community water well utilizing sophisticated technology which kept the fine sand from infiltrating the well and fitted the well with standard housing as protection. This allowed Herders to return to their summer grazing pastures.

Local herder families were unable to take residence in the 5th Bagh region of Baatsagaan Soum during summer as there were insufficient water wells in the area for grazing animals. Even though locals have drilled many water wells in the area in the past, most of the water wells became unusable as underground fine sand infiltrated and contaminated ground water being drawn from the water wells. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the drilling of a new community water well utilizing sophisticated technology and fitted the well with quality screening materials which prevented fine sand from infiltrating ground water. Additionally, the well was fitted with standard housing to protect the water well.

In 2019, Petro Matad funded the drilling and construction of a 220m deep potable water well and equipped it with the latest technologically advanced fully automated water purification system to provide an additional potable water source for the residents of Matad Soum.

In 2019, Petro Matad funded the drilling of three water wells for herders and their livestock in the areas around Matad Soum’s 6th Bagh where natural water supply was scarce. This has helped to spread out pasture areas which will improve long term environmental sustainability

Petro Matad supported the drilling of a water well in the soum for local herders to increase and improve water supply which is crucial for the well-being of local residents and livestock that live in arid and semi desert conditions in Baruun-Bayan Ulaan soum.

Infrastructure

Contributions to the Sukhbaatar Aimag Police Department

In 2011, Petro Matad donated a desktop, laptop, and printer to the Sukhbaatar Aimag Police Department to assist in the Police department’s efforts in keeping Sukhbaatar Aimag safe and crime rates low.

Contributions to the Governor’s secretariat office in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

The furniture in the Governor’s secretariat office in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum were old and worn out. In 2011, Petro Matad contributed a new meeting table, sofa, projector, work desks and chairs to improve the working environment of the Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum’s administration officers.

Contributions to Bogd Soum Police Department of Bayankhongor Aimag

The Bogd Soum Police Department is the best performing Police Department in the Bayankhongor Aimag. The department moved into a new building in 2009 however lacked resources in advocating crime prevention tactics to residents. With proper resources, the Police Department aimed to relay relevant laws and regulations to residents and organizations and advise residents of crime prevention tactics to reduce the crime rate in the area. To assist in the Police Department’s efforts, Petro Matad donated a laptop, printer, projector, information board, tables, and chairs to facilitate in the establishment of an Anti-Crime Centre in 2011.

Contributions to Khurkhree Baga in Chandmani Soum of Gobi-Altai Aimag

In 2014, Petro Matad funded the building of Central Building for Khurkhree Bagh of Chandmani Soum upon the request of the residents. The Central Building serves as the Bagh’s administration office, including consultation rooms to be used by the Bagh’s 2 doctors as well as a meeting hall for residents.

Contributions to the Cultural Palace of Khairkhandulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

A new Cultural Palace in Khairkhandulaan Soum was built. Conferences, concerts, and various other events are held at the Cultural Palace for the Soum residents. In 2011, Petro Matad provided funds for the purchase of 75 seats to complete the 250-seat capacity of the event space.

Contributions towards the instalment of G-Mobile telecommunications antenna

In 2016, Petro Matad contributed to construction of a telecommunications antenna in the Chandmani Soum of Govi-Altai Aimag and upon completion provided coverage for up to 85 percent of the residents in the Soum.

Contributions towards building of hay storage warehouse in Bayantsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2016, Petro Matad funded parts of the costs to build a hay storage warehouse in Bayantsagaan Soum. The warehouse can store up to 400 tonne of hay and feed which is used to supply herders with necessary stock for stock animals in extreme winter and spring conditions.

Contribution of modern toilet facility in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2017, Petro Matad funded the building of a modern toilet facility at the Guchin-Us Soum’s high school in Uvurkhangai Province. Clean water is pumped from a water well while sewerage is collected in storage tank under the ground. The facility is heated via the school building’s heating system and provided the c.500 students, teachers, staff, and visitors a modern and comfortable facility.

Contribution towards the construction of Elders’ Hall in Tugrug Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2017, Petro Matad contributed towards the building of ‘Elders Hall’ in Tugrug Soum, Uvurkhangai Aimag. The building of the ‘Elders Hall’ has encouraged community elders to continue to develop and lead an active social life. It has also enabled continued education of the soum’s citizens so they can help themselves to be self-employed. The ‘Elders Hall’ is structured with 2 rooms and one conference hall with a total area of 160m² made of concrete cast brick, parquet flooring and vacuum-insulated windows.

Renovation of Bayankhongor Aimag’s ‘Burged’ Boxing club

In 2017, Petro Matad funded the renovation of Bayankhongor Aimag’s ‘Burged’ Boxing Club’s training hall and living quarters. ‘Burged’ Boxing Club’s members include mostly underaged children from poor and single parent families. Renovation of the training hall and living quarters has created a conducive environment for the children which will have a positive impact on their training, motivation to participate in competitions and build spirit to fight and aim for success.

Installation of camera and street lighting in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In recent years, the number of burglaries and property thefts had increased in the Soum centre. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the installation of camera and street lighting in the Soum centre streets to prevent crime, improve security and create safe living conditions for the residents.

Donation of loader to Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2018, Petro Matad sourced and purchased a brand-new loader which was donated to the administration office of Guchin-Us Soum. With the loader, the administration can clear and maintain the Soum’s rubbish dump site, clear up roads during harsh weather conditions and has helped local residents to level ground around their spring and winter quarters.

Contributions to Cultural Center in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2018, Petro Matad financed the purchase of new sound system, lighting, and other equipment to replace old and worn-out equipment at the Cultural Centre of the Soum. The Cultural Centre is central to promoting cultural heritage in the Soum where many cultural events are held and organized.

Construction of animal sanitation bath in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In recent years, 8 types of epidemic diseases (rabies, brucellosis etc.) have been rampant among livestock in the Soum. Provision of veterinary services to the herders in 4th Bagh of Guchin-Us Soum was problematic due to lack of animal sanitation bath and access to disease preventive services which has negatively impacted the quality of meat. In 2018 Petro Matad financed the construction of an animal sanitation bath for the herders in 4th Bagh to assist in the quality rearing of livestock.

Donation of garbage truck to Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2018, there were 6 government organizations, 7 private businesses, 17 grocery stores and 3 cafeterias in Baatsagaan Soum centre where 1140 residents and 285 households lived. Due to a lack of dedicated garbage truck the waste was not collected frequently which contributed to spread of diseases. Petro Matad donated a new garbage truck which increased the efficiency of waste collection and disposal thereby improving overall health conditions in the Soum.

Contributions to kindergarten in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

The Soum kindergarten was established in 1986 with capacity of 90 children. It lacked proper sanitation facilities having only external drop hole toilets. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the purchase of mobile biotoilets to improve the health and safety of the young children.

Contributions to state building renovations in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

As Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum’s elders’ house, 8 apartments for civil servants, and the Governor’s Office needed renovation, Petro Matad provided financing to support renovation works in 2022.

Construction of eco-toilets in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2022, Petro Matad financed the construction of eco-toilets for the soum’s secondary school dormitory, soum Governor’s office and Business Development Centre. In the remote regions of Mongolia, drop toilets are still commonly used. The eco-toilets not only address immediate environmental and public health concerns but also contribute to the overall well-being and sustainability of the community.

Construction of tri-seasonal greenhouses in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2023, Petro Matad funded the purchase and construction of two new tri-seasonal greenhouses for residents of Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum within the framework of the national movement “Food Supply and Safety” initiated by the President of Mongolia. The greenhouses enable residents to grow their own supply of healthy and fresh vegetables promoting self-sufficiency, economic growth, and environmental sustainability of local community.

Contributions to Ger of Honour in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

For the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the soum, Petro Matad funded the purchase of two Mongolian gers of honour with 6 and 5 panels in 2023. The gers will serve as reception venues for guests during the anniversary celebratory events and future events organized in the soum.

Environment

Waste dumpsite clean-up in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2010, Petro Matad assisted in the clean-up of a waste dumpsite in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum in Uvurkhangai Aimag by funding some of the clean-up expenses. The dumpsite was not a designated dumping ground and had been adversely affecting the environment, hygiene, and health of the Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum’s citizens.

Waste dumpsite clean-up in Baatsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

Waste dumpsite covering 20 hectares of area had accumulated waste since 1958 and was beginning to pose a threat to the environment. As the Soum centre expanded, the nearby dumpsite was unhygienic and detrimental to the health of the residents and urgently required a clean-up and relocation to an area further away from the Soum centre. Petro Matad funded labourers who cleared and relocated the waste dumpsite in 2011.

Assistance in fencing the Sea Buckthorn Plantation in Buutsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

The residents of the Buutsagaan Soum donated MNT21,000 each from the allowance they get from the Mongolian Government to plant sea buckthorn trees over 60 hectares of land. The plantation has positive ecological, environmental, and social impacts on the Soum residents. Petro Matad assisted the Soum in fencing the plantation to protect the plantation from damages by animals and human in 2011.

Purchase and planting of 500 Aspen trees

In May 2016, Petro Matad handed over 500 Aspen trees bought from Bayankhongor Aimag’s tree nursery to Baatsagaan Soum. The residents were grateful for the donated trees and volunteered in the tree plantation process. The plantation of 500 Aspen trees will help to reverse desertification and promote greenery in the area.

Waste dumpsite clean-up in Guchin-Us Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

The Soum’s waste dumpsite had expanded to 2.5 hectares of area. Due to harsh winter and dry spring, many livestock died, and the carcasses were dumped at the dumpsite raising health concerns. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the clean-up and burial of waste which improved hygiene and prevented spread of infectious disease in the Soum.

Contributions to protecting Baidrag river source in Bayankhongor Aimag

Bayankhongor Aimag Environment and Tourism Agency initiated a project to protect the Baidrag river source and to rehabilitate eroded soil along the river basin. The Baidrag river is the only river feeding the Buuntsagaan Lake which is a Ramsar site. In 2018, Petro Matad financed the purchase of 2,500 Aspen, Willow, Elm, and Gobi tree species which were planted and fenced in an area of 10 hectares along the river basin.

Contributions to tree planting project in Guchin-Us and Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soums of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In accordance with the President of Mongolia’s nationwide initiative to build a billion trees, Petro Matad financed the purchase of tree seedlings and drilling of water well in Guchin-Us and Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soums in 2022 which will in addition to adding greenery in the Soums will also combat desertification in the region.

Landfill waste management project in Matad Soum of Dornod Aimag

In conjunction with the Company’s testing and perforation subcontractor, DQ Well Testing Perforation Service company, Petro Matad organized and financed the rehabilitation of Matad Soum’s waste dumpsite area which had accumulated waste over a decade covering a total of 4.3 hectares of area. Through a community clean up campaign, with participation from Soum residents the surrounding 6 hectares of area were cleaned up. Scraps of old and damaged cars that were dumped at the waste site were transported to the Dornod Aimag metal recycling centre.

In 2022, Petro Matad financed the landfill waste management project in the soum where 25 tonnes of scrap metal were removed and transported to metal recycling centre. Waste management has positive impact on the improvement of public health, environmental protection, and overall quality of life for the community while addressing the growing waste disposal issue in the region.

Poverty Alleviation

Provision of gers to 5 underprivileged families in Bayantsagaan Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

In 2011, Petro Matad provided gers to 5 underprivileged families who were homeless and in poverty.

Provision of gers to 8 underprivileged families in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

In 2015, Petro Matad provided gers to 8 underprivileged families, identified by the Community Reference Group formed in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum, who were homeless and in poverty.

Winter feed supply to herders of Bumbugur Soum of Bayankhongor Aimag

Due to heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions in the winter of 2017, Bumbugur soum’s herders faced significant livestock decline and feedstock issues. At the request of the Soum to secure winter feed supply, Petro Matad purchased hay from Bayankhongor Aimag’s Hay Storage and distributed them to herders living around the area of the 2017 operations to help the herders tide over the harsh winter conditions.

Contributions to sustaining livelihood in Matad Soum of Dornod Aimag

To assist and support low-income families, Petro Matad financed the ‘Livestock’ project which enabled 3 shortlisted herder families identified by local authorities in 6th Bagh of Matad Soum to gain sustainable income from livestock. The funds were used to purchase 25 sheep and 25 goats for each family. After 2 years, each family is to then transfer the same amount received in aid to the next 3 identified herder families so that the aid is expanded to more low-income families.

Contributions to sustaining livelihood in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

Herders of Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum have encountered extreme weather conditions (heavy snowfall in winter, drought in summer) during the previous few years and as a result have suffered great livestock losses. In 2022, Petro Matad financed the ‘Livestock’ project in support of 14 young herder families. The young herder families are provided with a herd of livestock. Once the herd has increased in numbers, some of the livestock will be provided to other herder families and hence the project will be in continuance.

Contributions to sustaining livelihood in Baruunbayan-Ulaan Soum of Uvurkhangai Aimag

The Livestock Restocking Project, previously implemented by Petro Matad in the region, was noted to be highly successful and had a meaningful impact on the livelihoods of herders. The project not only addresses immediate needs but also has the potential to create lasting positive change in the lives of herders, reducing poverty and enabling herder families to generate income. At the request of the local government office and herders, livestock was purchased for an additional 12 young herder families in 2023.

Scholarships

Petro Matad Group provides its own scholarships domestically for undergraduates who are studying Geology and Petroleum Engineering at the National University of Mongolia and the Mongolian Science and Technology University. To date, we have awarded a total of $120,000 to 240 students domestically. In 2019, we provided tuition support to 4 students originally from 4th Bagh of Erdenetsagaan Soum for their tertiary education in Ulaanbaatar City.

We also provide scholarships for bachelors and higher degree programmes overseas to the officials of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia (MRPAM) to support them in increasing their level of education and capacity. There were 2 officials who underwent master’s programme in the University of Alberta in Canada and 5 students, nominated by MRPAM, were sent to study at the Beijing University of Petroleum in China under this programme.

Additionally, Petro Matad has sponsored MMHI and MRPAM officials to participate in short term training:

2016 – 7 MRPAM officials for improving knowledge, information, and experience in formulating the Petroleum Accountancy Regulation
2018 – 5 MRPAM officials for participation in Strengthening Extractive Sector Management in Mongolia
2019 – 5 MRPAM officials for participation in short term technical training and in SEAPEX conference in Singapore
2020 – 4 MRPAM officials and 2 MMHI officials in Petroleum Reserves Management System (PRMS) and Competent Person’s Report workshop in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Internships

We are also committed to providing employment and career development opportunities to citizens of local communities where we operate. Besides offering part time positions at our camp and operations on Blocks IV, V and XX, we have offered positions in our Ulaanbaatar Office to university students studying in various fields. The internship positions are offered to students who are originally from the Aimags where Petro Matad operates. To date, we have offered internship positions in our Accounting, Administration, Community Relations, Drilling, Geoscience and Environmental departments and onsite on Block XX. The interns successfully completed their internships and some students have subsequently been offered full time employment with our Group companies.
